...The Site

timeless: the VIRTUES OF HARMONY network located at http://www.virtuesofharmony.net premiered on January 8, 2006. This site combines every spectrum of TVB's hit Virtues of Harmony from ancient to modern. Marking the latest (and hopefully not final) Virtues addition to the Internet, this site brings the Virtues saga to a complete circle and brings together every VOH site that I've created over the past four years on my first paid server and domain ever. Entailing the Virtues of Harmony I - Classical Fantasy, Virtues of Harmony II - Memoirs, the Official VOH I & II Fanlisting, and post-Virtues of Harmony news, this is a unique site that is as massive as the Virtues legacy and is a testament to how much I've grown and learned over the years as a webmaster; no more pop-ups, no more advertisements, no more mess, nothing being left incomplete, no more simplicity...

So how did it all start?
A reflective history of the sites that preluded the VOH Network

Nearly four years ago, I was captured by the VOH frenzy. Mind you that I didn't love VOH until about 1/10th of the way into the series. Regardless, soon, this special series overcame me and I started to grow more and more fond of it with each tape that I rented. In 2002, VOH was still a fresh series, so there was a lot of discussion on it. Seeing how Winglin had special forums for "big" productions, I felt that VOH deserved its own forum like those series that Winglin made forums for. When I e-mailed them requesting a VOH forum, I explained that VOH was really popular and being a long-running series, it would continue to have heavy discussion. Disappointedly, the boardmaster didn't feel that VOH was special enough to warrant its own forum. As a result, I decided to open up my own VOH forum via Network54. Little did I know, that would be the start of a phenomenon that I could never have imagined.

When my forum first opened, I intended it to be a place for discussion and include a few webpages of pictures and information. Never did I intend to build an entire website for VOH. Back then, I had very little website skills and my html knowledge was limited. The first person to help me was a girl named Anne (I believe) who had her own Joey Yung forum and offered to help me with mine. She helped to clean up my forum's look and gave me some very helpful tips and programs. I haven't heard from her since the early days of my VOH site, but I wonder if she's still around. In any case, I owe her a big thanks! :) Anyways, to my dismay, my forum didn't turn out to be a hit like I thought it would be. It was quite dead. In those early days, I remember that one individual posted as several different names to make me think that the forum was becoming popular. I was really touched! As the days went on, my love for VOH increased so much that I decided to turn my forum with random webpages into a full website. I wanted VOH to have a website because I felt it deserved one. To make a long story short, my website continued to grow with each coming month. I was getting around 10,000 hits per month, which really shocked me! I was so surprised and delighted. I never imagined that my VOH site would become so popular. Naturally, the VOH II site followed.

Someone had suggested that I make a fanlisting for VOH, but I hesitated on the idea. I didn't think anyone would sign up because people only joined fanlistings for actors and actresses... right? Well, as more and more fanlistings continued to pop up each day, I decided that it was time that VOH got its own fanlisting as well. Thus, the VOH I & II fanlisting was born on June 29, 2004. To my amazement, on the very first day, 49 people had joined already! In just one month, I was on the brink of 200 fans. I guess I didn't have enough faith in our VOH community. Hehe. After VOH II ended, I felt that the VOH II site was almost "complete" and I was so proud of it. However, when I visited my VOH I site, I was very embarrassed. It was so incomplete and messy. On May 5, 2005, I premiered the retouched version of the VOH I site. In November 2005, my VOH II site was inadvertedly deleted by the freehost that I had been using. I was devastated. Over two years of hard work had gone down the drain... Fatefully, I had back-up. But, where would I upload everything to again?

That was when the idea of purchasing my own server and host came into my head. Earlier that summer, I had been thinking about making a VOH network to list all of my VOH sites and VOH-related websites. However, that idea never formulated because I felt it would be pointless. Faced with the lost of my VOH II site, I realized there was only one solution: it was time to give VOH its own server and domain. With that, www.virtuesofharmony.net was born.
