"Ah Nin's (Frankie Lam) gone crazy?" Gam (Louis Yuen) exclaims.
"Uncle, he just has amnesia!" Ah Yuet (Michael Tse) corrects.
"Is there such a fine difference between insanity and amnesia? With either you don't know anything. Isn't that right?"
"Is there anything we can do to help big brother?" Ah Yat (Joyce Chen) is concerned.
"You can help by telling TVB to extend 'Gai Dai Foon Siu' to hour-long episodes. Half-an-hour a day is not enough!"
Ah Lo (Bondy Chiu) rolls her eyes, "Your nephew has amnesia and you still care about TV?"
"You watch it too!"
"Of course. My babies must have happiness!"
"Hey, it's 9:00 PM! 'Gai Dai Foon Siu' is on!"
"Oh, let's watch!" Ah Lo grins cheerfully.
Just like that, the topic of Ah Nin had been put to the back of the minds of the Kams. To them, "Gai Dai Foon Siu" would always be important, perhaps even more than the well being of a family member. The laughter emitted from "Gai Dai Foon Siu" and Kam family was enough to drown out any worries and stress they accumulated that day.
[Shanghai, Ah Nin's Room]
The morning sun shines through Ah Nin's window. A new day has arrived. As he is showering, the claims of his supposed family kept replaying in his mind. He tries to get their voices out of his head, but it was as if their voices had receptors imprinted from long ago already in his mind. As hard as he might try, their voices just wouldn't escape. It was like their voices held a comfortable place in his mind.
Ah Nin drops his tie under the bed while dressing. He bends down to fetch it. Not only does he find his tie, but also a dusty book. He pats off the dust and opens the book. It is a journal dated back two years ago. Ah Nin reads it.

It's been days since I've left Hong Kong. I wonder how Joey (Bernice Liu) is doing? Is she married to Sam (Ellesmere Choi) now? God, whenever I think about this, I just want to vomit blood. Sam is such a bastard! I confided in him about my problem and then he goes and steals my girlfriend? I could just... but enough. I've started working at "F&B" company thanks to the recommendation of Mr. Wong (Lau Dan). I miss "Ka Yan" company! As lazy as the employees could be, we were close and had fun working together. Speaking of "Ka Yan," I wonder how my family is doing. I must call them soon. Ma Chi (Nancy Sit) must be worried sick about me! Ah Yuet and Ah Lo, how will they fare now that there's no 'big brother' to make peace with them? And what about Uncle? Poor Auntie (Kingdom Yuen) as well. Will Ah Yat ever find success in her acting career? I worry about them so much and I miss them terribly. But I can't go back to Hong Kong. I don't want to see Joey with another man. As troublesome as they can be and as much headaches as they may cause me, I don't think I could live without them. I do reckon that they can't go on without this 'big brother' as well. Who will be the sane and serious one in the family to sort everything out?
April 23, 2004
I've just come back from my short trip to Hong Kong to visit Ma Chi and the others. Can you believe it? I have a 'big brother.' Yes, that's right! I'm no longer Kam family's 'big brother.' It turns out that Ma Chi has a long-lost son. He's Ah Sing (Hawick Lau). But everyone in the family addresses him as 'big big brother,' so in a sense, I'm still the 'big brother.' I really can't believe that such a thing happened in the past, but it's true. I'm somewhat relieved. Now my family has a new 'big brother' to look over everything. I can worry less about them and focus more on my work in Shanghai. It is still so lonely in Shanghai. I am glad I have you to discuss my life with! There's a girl in "F&B" company that seems to like me, but I just can't accept her because I still can't forget Joey. In fact, I even yelled at Ah Sing because I thought he lost my picture with her. As I sit here writing this, I'm constantly glancing at our picture in a frame on my desk. God, Joey, I miss you so much. Why did you have to lose your memories? We were so close to being together! After so many misunderstandings...
[End of Journal Reading]
"Chris," Rose (Kenix Kwok) knocks on his door. "Good morning. What are you doing?" She notices a book in his hands.
"Rose, I found this under my bed. It was dusty and old and in my handwriting, from two years ago," Ah Nin shows her the journal.
"Oh... did it say anything important?"
"While I was reading it, I felt that these words are real and I could recall vaguely writing them. Surprisingly, the entries that I read confirmed everything that 'my family' told me yesterday... As ridiculous as they sounded yesterday, I somehow believe their words now."
"Damn it," Rose thinks while smiling, "I forgot to burn that journal. It must have slipped or dropped out of my hands and somehow landed under his bed the day I helped him move to my house with his stuff." She clears her throat. "Well, you have no reason to not believe them now."
"I guess you're right. I should give them more of a chance to explain themselves when I meet them later."
"If you don't mind," Rose asks, "I would like to look at the journal for a bit."
"Sure."
[Rose's Room]
Rose rapidly flips through the journal. She is angry and wants to rip out every single page. "How can such a flaw have occurred?" She catches sight of her name and her eyes bulges as she reads the entries regarding her. Blood rushes to her head. With scissors, she carefully cuts out the pages. "Well, since this has happened. I guess I must let him go with his family. But I won't let him read about me." She crumbles the pages. "Everything that I've done won't, no, it definitely will not go to waste."
