Chapter 33

joey's plead

[Restaurant]

Joey (Bernice Liu) dresses in a stripped pink blouse with pink hair clippers on her head, parting her bangs to the side. Ah Nin (Frankie Lam) had told her in the past that he likes girls dressing in pink the best. As she walked into the restaurant, she tried to calm her nerves. She didn't want to get too excited because she was afraid of disappointment.

"Joey!" Ah Nin waves to catch her attention.

"Chris," Joey says when she reaches him and sits down.

"Pink accentuates and compliments you well."

"Does it? Someone told me that his favorite color on girls was pink, so that's why I started dressing in pink."

"He has good taste. I feel the same way! Pink makes girls look sweet and feminine, the way they should look."

Joey blushes.

"Even your blush matches your look! You look very pretty."

Joey finds it hard to speak after hearing Ah Nin's compliments, but manages to say, "How are you adjusting to Hong Kong?"

"It's done wonders. It's true that Hong Kong is overpopulated, but I feel so comfortable here!"

"Have you remember more of your past?"

"I have. In fact, I remember everyone in my family," he smiles.

His smile both melts Joey's heart and shatters it. She wasn't part of his 'immediate' family.

"So why did you want to see me today?" Joey asks.

"It's about your daddy."

Joey sighs and thinks to herself, "So it isn't about me."

"For some reason, he seems to hate me," Ah Nin says.

Joey shakes her head. Her father loved her too much sometimes. "How am I related to this?" she asks.

"I want to go back to 'Ka Yan' and work."

"Do you?"

Ah Nin nods.

"Why? I thought you're working in Shanghai."

"I resigned."

Joey is surprised, "What about Rose?"

"She's in Hong Kong."

"Oh."

"Please help me Joey."

"But what can I do?"

"Convince your father to rehire me."

"You called me out just to tell me this?" Joey is upset because she had been disappointed.

"Please," Ah Nin begs, "I strongly believe that 'Ka Yan' will lead me to regain more of my memories."

The look of pleading in his eyes made it hard for Joey to resist. "I'll see what I can do," Joey says and leaves.

[Ng Sau's Apartment]

Fiona (Sherming Yiu) massages Ah Sing's (Hawick Lau) shoulder. "How was work today?"

"Tiring! That Hung Bak Lam just doesn't know when to stop."

"Isn't that Uncle Sau's niece?"

"Indeed."

"Wow, I thought he said she was a nice girl."

"Maybe to him."

"Maybe you're too critical of her."

"I'm critical of every girl because they can't compare to my princess."

Fiona smiles.

The doorbell rings. "It must be Uncle Sau," Ah Sing concludes.

"I'll go open it," Fiona says.

"I will. I don't want to overwork my princess!" Ah Sing walks over to the door.

Ah Lam (Linda Chung) screams when she sees Ah Sing standing opposite of her. "What are you doing here?" she demands.

"I live here."

"Where is my uncle?"

"Probably still at TVB studios."

"Michelle, who's that?" Ah San (Steven Ma) asks.

"One of my uncle's silly friends," Ah Lam answers.

"I guess you're not going to introduce us," Ah Sing folds his arms.

Ah Lam rolls her eyes, "Ivan, this is Ah Sing. Ah Sing, my husband, Ivan."

Ah Sing and Ah San shake each other's hands.

"Fiona!" Ah Sing calls. She runs to the door and he introduces her to them, "Fiona, this is Michelle, Uncle Sau's angelic niece and her husband, Ivan. Michelle, Ivan, my wife, Fiona."

"I'm surprised that someone married a monkey of a jerk like you," Ah Lam says under her breath.

"Won't you come in?" Fiona invites.

"I don't think it's necessary," Ah Sing says.

"We should be going, right, Ivan? We don't want our maids and servants to wait too long on us," she winks.

"All right, see you guys later," Ah San says.

Ah Sing shakes his head. Ah Lam was still as cold as ever.

[Wong Family House]

"Daddy," Joey begins, "About 'Ka Yan' company..."

"Yes, daughter?" Wong Sheung (Lau Dan) asks.

"Is business improving? A few weeks ago you were so upset and worried because business was not going well."

"Business has improved a great deal over the past few weeks."

"So why are you still pissed?"

"I'm not," he smiles, "Who says I am?"

"Chris says so."

"Don't mention that name to me."

"Daddy, he didn't do anything to you!"

"He hurt you."

"He didn't do it intentionally. Daddy, do you know what he said to me today?"

"What?"

"He told me that he thinks he will remember more if he works at 'Ka Yan' again."

"Thinking and reality are two different things."

"There's a hope, daddy. Who knows... he might remember me after he starts working at 'Ka Yan' company again."

"Daughter, why do you have to do this?"

"Because Chris is the only one I love, daddy."

Wong Sheung sighs, "Okay."

Joey kisses her father on the cheek, "Thank you!"

"I assume you're going to start working at 'Ka Yan' again too?"

"Of course. With Chris as the Merchandising Manager and me as his fashion designer again, I'm sure it will refresh and retrieve his memories." Joey bites her bottom lip, "I'm sure of it. Yes, it will happen... Chris will surely remember me. He must."
