"Thank you everyone for planning this small birthday dinner for me," Nim Chi (Nancy Sit) smiles.
"See, I told you that as long as Auntie Chi gets some food into her system she won't be down!" Gam (Louis Yuen) whispers to Ah Lo (Bondy Chiu). "And you were all talking about going to Shanghai to find Ah Nin. Seems to me that you want to use that as an excuse to not go to work."
"At least I don't hide out in the bathroom all day!"
Nim Chi excuses herself to fetch something from her bedroom. As she walks by, she looks at the vacant bedroom and lets out a sigh. She stares at it for a second and places her hand on the door, trying to remember when was the last time it felt warm. Suddenly, she notices something strange. There was a noise coming from inside! It was an indication that someone, or something, was inside. But who, or what, could it be? Nim Chi quietly runs back out and lowers her voice as she announces, "Listen, everyone. There is something going on!" She points to the room.
"Aiya, Ma Chi! We told you that we'll help find big brother and big big brother soon," Ah Yat (Joyce Chen) says.
"No, it's not that. I hear a strange noise coming from there. It sounds like snoring and body movement."
"Are you serious?"
Nim Chi nods.
"Ma Chi, I think it's just your imagination because you miss Ah Nin and Ah Sing too much!" Ah Yuet (Michael Tse) folds his arms.
"No. It's true! I definitely heard something in there."
"Do you think our house got broken into?" Ah Hong (Johnny Tang) asks.
"It can't be! I've been here cooking all day. Well, I did go out for a bit. But what robber would he be if our stuff is intact? There's no sign of a break-in and who in their right mind would break in to live in someone's room, especially at the big risk of getting caught?" Sa Sa (Kingdom Yuen) ponders.
"In any case, I heard something and we should check it out," Nim Chi urges.
"You're the ex-police cadet! Lead us!"
"If only you guys were in unison with everything like that."
Gam gets up and runs over to the sofa and pulls out a baseball bat and hands it to Nim Chi. Everyone piles behind her and pushes her forward. Ah Yuet whispers, "Uncle, where did you get that and why is it under our sofa?"
"Don't you worry about that!"
Nim Chi orders everyone to hush and tip-toe quietly, otherwise they might be detected.
Ah Lo rolls her eyes. "We've been having dinner loudly for over an hour. If they didn't hear us already, then there must be something wrong with them."
"There are deaf criminals," Ying Gei (Yvonne Lam) offers.
"Yes, and you can be the first stupid criminal, Einstein!" Gam laughs.
After strenuously walking to avoid making a sound, they finally reach their destination. "On the count of three, we will bust in and gang up on whoever is in there. Got it?" Nim Chi begins to count as everyone gets ready, "One... two... three!" The door is kicked open and Nim Chi is about to slam the baseball bat down when she hears shouts telling her to stop.
"Ah Sing (Hawick Lau), help me!" a female voice calls.
Nim Chi blinks her eyes numerous times to make sure it wasn't an illusion. The son that she had been waiting ernestly to see every day was standing right there. She drops the bat and hugs him. Out of sheer happiness, she begins crying.
"Ma Chi, you always act too recklessly!"
Ah Lo whispers to Ah Yuet, "Your mother is so silly! She's always overreacting and getting us into silly situations."
Nim Chi blushes. "Well, who knew that Ah Sing and Fiona (Sherming Yiu) had returned home?" She smiles at them. "So, tell me, what are you guys doing here? Why did you return to Hong Kong without telling us?"
Ah Sing explains, "We just arrived in Hong Kong today. When we got into the house, no one was home. Fiona and I were too tired from our long trip, so we just collapsed after we got settled into my bedroom. By the way, why is there so much junk in there?! We could hardly move! Good thing the area around the bed was clear otherwise we might have been caved in and gotten killed! We noticed when you guys came back home, but we were too tired that we couldn't spare the energy to move."
"Even if we didn't get killed that way, mother-in-law's baseball bat would have sent us straight to heaven!" Fiona jokes. "Actually," she continues, "you can blame me for our sudden appearance here. I was bored and wanted to see what the world was like where Ah Sing grew up."
"Don't feel that way! We're more than happy to have you here! Please tell me that you plan to stay permanently!"
"That's right, Ma Chi misses you dearly big big brother," Ah Yat adds.
"Yes," Nim Chi takes Fiona's hands, "and I would like to get to know my big big daughter-in-law as well."
"We'll see," Fiona withdraws her hands.
"Ma Chi, don't worry. We will definitely stay for a long time!" Ah Sing assures. Fiona looks at him uneasily.
The Kams' 8A apartment was now more crowded than ever and for that time, Nim Chi's mind was at ease. That night, however, as she rolled around in her bed, a nightmare haunted her. She saw Ah Nin (Frankie Lam) with a woman standing in the shadows manipulating his every action. She woke up in a cold sweat and a pacing heart in the middle of the night. It was at that moment that she was sure that something was wrong. Dreams never lie, especially for the Kams.
[Airplane]
"Miss, miss," a stewardess (Flora Chan) calls as she tries to get the attention of a blank-faced Joey (Bernice Liu).
It was at this moment that Joey realized that she had been daydreaming as she looked out of the airplane window. "Oh, I'm sorry."
"Is there something wrong?"
"It's nothing."
"Would you like me to get you anything?"
Joey smiles, "No thanks." She just had a lot on her mind. She watched the couple that sits besides her and is reminded of her past. The images and memories kept playing in her head, but the face of 'that person' was always blurred. She held her head and shuts her eyes tightly as she tried to clear up the blurred image. Her efforts are useless.
[Hong Kong International Airport]
It's raining as Joey waits for a taxi to take her home. Seeing the rain, she is reminded of the time where she and 'that person' walked together under the same umbrella. A car rushes by and splashes Joey wet with puddle water. She is reminded of the time when 'that person' took her in his arms to prevent her from being splashed by a puddle. As Joey stood in the rain, she felt lonely, cold, and scared. She begins to cry. She yells to the sky, "Why won't you let me know who I love for sure? Yes, I know I shouldn't mind who does what for me because love is not about that. But I would like to know! Why do you have to keep teasing me by making me remember but not totally?"
The taxi driver beeps at her. "Miss, do you want to get in or not?"
Joey looks around and is embarrassed to see everyone staring at her. "Oh! Don't mind me. I'm just practicing my lines for a play. How's my acting? Good? Believable?" She blushes and laughs, quickly hoping into the taxi with her bags.
[Taxi Cab]
During the ride, the taxi driver kept looking at Joey through the rear-view mirror. "You look familiar," he says. "Are you the one that was riding with that guy a few years back when my feet suddenly started to itch and I got into an accident?"
Joey's attention is caught. "What?"
"I said, did you get into a taxi accident a few years ago?"
"Yes, I did."
"Who was with you?"
"I'm... not sure, but it was a guy."
"Do I look familiar to you?"
Suddenly, it comes back to Joey. "Yes! You were the one that Chris (Frankie) hired to fool me to believing that you were the one who took 'us' home that night of the accident. I'll never forget how he could bluntly pay two people off just to lie to me."
"Miss, he didn't hire me. In fact, he searched far and wide to find me! I didn't take his money to lie for him at all."
"How can I believe you?"
"How can someone forget their own car accident? Besides, he is not paying me now. Why would I lie at this moment?"
The taxi starts to swerve as the driver loses control under the heavy rain and slippery road. Joey's eyes bulge. "Slow down!" A white burst of light flashes before Joey's eyes. Finally, the blurred face is cleared and she sees who 'that person' is. The car slams into a ramp. She feels and hears blood dripping from her head and says in a weak breath, "Why did you let me know so late? Maybe the truth won't matter now..." Joey loses consciousness.
