Seeking Happiness

by MetalAZNWarrior

Chapter 40

a forlorn princess

[Ng Sau's Apartment]

Every day after Ah Sing (Hawick Lau) left for work, Fiona (Sherming Yiu) would stay at home and wait for him to return. Although she had left the Islands for a few months already, she still missed it terribly. She remembers how big the palace seemed to her when she was a little girl. She would wonder if she would ever be able to wander in every nook and cranny. The imperial palace was massive and composed of big, red walls. Even after she grew up, Fiona still found the palace to be endless. Before she had gotten a chance to walk through every hall and room, she was forced to leave. Fiona holds back tears thinking of the scary final days in the palace.

"Ah Sing, please come home soon. I feel lonely and scared..."

In the past, Fiona was always surrounded by people who were untrue, deceived her for power, and complimented her only because of her position. In her times at the palace, she discovered how cruel people could be. Now, she was all alone and longed to be surrounded by people, even if their intentions were blurred. Realizing that she would go crazy if she continued to be isolated, she leaves her 7A apartment and takes the elevator up to the Kams' 8A apartment

[Level 8]

Fiona rings the doorbell numerous times, but in vain. It seemed that no one was home. She sighs and decides to head back down. The moment the elevator doors are about to close, Fiona hears someone yelling, "Wait!" She stops the doors from closing and smiles when she sees that the person was her auntie-in-law, Sa Sa (Kingdom Yuen). Adorned in yellow clothes and a never-changing mushroom hair, Sa Sa greets Fiona.

[Elevator]

"Auntie!"

"How have you been?"

"Really bored!"

"Ah Sing not treating you well?"

"He is, but he's always at work these days."

"The woes of being a housewife."

"Where are you going auntie?"

"I'm heading to TVB studios to bring my husband some soup. How about you?"

"I have no idea."

"Care to join me?"

Fiona nods, "I'd love to."

[TVB Studios]

While Sa Sa was lovingly chatting with 11th brother (Lee Kwok Lun), Fiona wandered around TVB studios with Ah Yat (Joyce Chen) and Ah Hong (Johnny Tang). Fiona was in awe at being able to see a first-hand look at the sets and costumes that were so familiar to her.

"I can't believe I'm here!" Fiona proclaims.

Ah Yat smiles, "Yes, it's quite a big place."

"But you get used to it after awhile," Ah Hong adds.

"I'm just glad to be out of the house," Fiona confesses.

Ah Yat is surprised, "Besides being in Uncle Sau's apartment and coming to our apartment for dinner you haven't gone anywhere else?"

Fiona shakes her head, "Hong Kong is too big... I'm afraid to go alone. I go wherever Ah Sing takes me."

"But big big brother is so busy these days with work."

Fiona sighs, "That's why I'm so glad to have a change of environment!"

"You're missing out, big big sister-in-law! There are a lot of places to see in Hong Kong and many things you need to try."

"I know, but what can I do?"

"I know!" Ah Yat declares, "If you want, Ah Hong and I can take you out for a tour!"

"Wife, did you forget that we're currently working on a grand production?" Ah Hong asks.

"Oh! That's right and TVB wants this series to be the coming year's anniversary series."

"It's okay! You can take me when you're free," Fiona assures. She is curious, "What is the series about?"

Ah Yat lowers her voice to a whisper, "It's a pseudo-palace drama about a princess set in modern times."

"That sounds interesting!" Fiona comments.

"Fiona, do you think you can help us?" Ah Hong asks.

"Sure, what is it?"

"Since you're an actual princess, maybe you can help us make the series more credible and realistic?"

"I'll try."

[Costumes Department]

Ah Hong hands Fiona a beautiful and delicate crown. It sparkled in the light. To his right were lovely costumes; the dresses were fluffy and elegant. The sight brought tears into Fiona's eyes.

Ah Yat frowns, "Big big sister-in-law, what's wrong?"

"This crown and these dresses and wonderful."

Ah Hong smiles, "Thank you! I designed them myself."

"Fiona, did you happen to bring your crown with you to Hong Kong?" Ah Yat inquires.

"My crown..." Fiona winces remembering how her diamond crystal crown had been smashed into pieces. Her pure white dress had been stained and ripped. Fiona breaks down into more tears thinking about her past. She runs off. Ah Hong and Ah Yat are puzzled as they watch Fiona disappear from their sight.

[Ng Sau's Apartment]

"Fiona! I'm home!" Ah Sing announces as he walks into the house. To his dismay, only Ng Sau (Albert Lo) was home. Ah Sing blinks, "Uncle Sau, do you know where my wife is?"

Sau shakes his head, "I haven't seen her all day."

"That's strange. Maybe she went upstairs for dinner already. I'll see you later!"

[Kam Family Apartment]

"Ma Chi, did Fiona come here already?" Ah Sing asks.

Nim Chi (Nancy Sit) replies, "No, she hasn't."

"Big big brother, is Fiona not home yet?" Ah Yat asks.

"She's not downstairs and she's not here. Where could she be?"

"Oh no! I knew we should have run after her," Ah Hong confesses.

"What do you mean?"

"Auntie took her to TVB studios today," Ah Yat explains, "But all of a sudden she starts crying when we ask for her input on a new series about a pseudo-modern day princess. She runs away after we show her the crown and dresses from the series."

"It was weird. I don't know what got into her," Ah Hong shrugs.

"Maybe she left with auntie?" Ah Yat asks.

"Let me go ask."

[Sek Family Apartment]

"Auntie, is Fiona here?" Ah Sing nervously asks.

Sa Sa frowns, "She didn't come home yet?"

"You took her to TVB studios today, right?"

Sa Sa nods, "I did. She seemed sad and really bored, so I asked her to join me!"

"But you left without taking her home?"

"I figured that she left on her own because when I went to Ah Yat and Ah Hong, they told me that she ran off on them."

"Aiya," Ah Sing sighs.

"What happened?"

"Fiona's missing! I can't find her anywhere."

Sa Sa grows horrified, "Oh my goodness!"

Ah Sing bites his lip, "Where can you be, Fiona?"

[Kam Family Apartment]

"Did you try calling her?" Ah Lo (Bondy Chiu) suggests.

Ah Sing nods, "I did, but she turned off her cell phone, so I can't reach her."

"It's all my fault," Ah Yat cries, "I knew I should have run after her. She told me today that she didn't go anywhere in Hong Kong without you and that she only stayed at home. I'm so sorry big big brother!"

"Ah Yat, don't say that. It's not your fault," Ah Sing comforts.

"Maybe we can call the police?" Rose (Kenix Kwok) suggests.

"It hasn't been long enough yet," Ah Yuet (Michael Tse) answers.

"What are we to do? It's dark and dangerous out there for a girl! Gam Gam, hold me! I'm scared," Ying Gei (Yvonne Lam) says.

As Gam (Louis Yuen) hugs Ying Gei, he adds, "Fiona is a big girl! She can walk and talk. I'm sure she is fine!"

"Sitting here and discussing this issue won't help. We need to go out there and find her!" Ah Nin (Frankie Lam) urges.

"But 'Gai Dai Foon Siu' will be on soon!" Gam protests.

Ah Sing gets up and storms out the room, "I can't wait like this anymore. Fiona needs me. I have to find her!"
