Joey (Bernice Liu) lay on her bed deep in thought. "What did she mean?" She frowns and wrinkles her nose.
"Another marvelous performance? Performance? Another one?" Joey repeats over and over again.
Ever since Joey had accidentally overheard this statement by Rose (Kenix Kwok) in the bathroom, she began to feel that Rose was even more suspicious. When they were in Shanghai looking for Ah Nin (Frankie Lam), she had brought up the question about what happened to the traces of his past. "Where did all of the pictures and letters from them go? Why did Chris have nothing belonging to them?" Nim Chi had told Joey that Ah Nin loved her desperately the last time she visited him and that he even had a photo album containing their modeling pictures. "Where did it all go?"
Joey scratches her head. "There's something about Rose... but what is it? Is she not telling us something?"
Joey observed Rose carefully in "Ka Yan" company, but after that incident in the bathroom, there was nothing else particularly peculiar. "Did I just hear wrong? Am I being too overly suspicious?" She pauses and lowers her eyes, "Or am I trying to delude myself into believing that Rose is a bad person so that I could have a reason to justify myself for taking Chris back from her?" She takes her pillow and submerges her head to let out a scream.
[Kam Family Apartment, Ah Nin & Rose's Bedroom]
The sun's ray peeked through the blind that covered the window of Ah Nin and Rose's bedroom. Ah Nin had already gone out to eat breakfast in the dining table. Rose sat on a chair and admired her reflection in the mirror. Even without any makeup on, Rose was still beautiful. She gave herself a smile of appraisal at how natural she looked. She remembers a time when she refused to wear makeup. This nostalgic moment recalls undesirable memories into Rose's head. She quickly applies foundation and powder onto her face. When she was done, she smiled again. "I won't allow anyone to see my real face again," she murmurs.
["Ka Yan" Company]
"Joey, how's the design coming along? Mr. Chik of "A&B" is rushing us!" Ah Nin exclaims.
Joey sat at her desk working on a design and forced a smile, "Just fine!"
"Let me know when you're done."
"I will." Joey chews on her pencil out of frustration. She had been staring at her design for minutes, but no inspiration came to her. She thought she was almost done, but for some reason she couldn't finish. Her design seemed incomplete. It was missing something, but Joey didn't know what. It looked decent, but Joey was unsatisfied. A sudden thought pops into her head, "Of course! I'll ask Rose."
Joey travels to Rose's desk in front of Man Gwai Fei's office and asks, "Are you busy?"
Rose smiles, "No. What's up?"
"I'm having a problem. This design," Joey hands her the paper, "It's almost done, but I feel it's not complete. I can't put my finger on what's missing or what's wrong with it, though. Can you give me some insights?"
Rose examined the design for a few seconds. She gives her critique, "This dress is quite nice. I feel you overdid it a bit with the ruffles. I say you take it out and add some lace instead. It will look more elegant! I also think you should take out the straps. It will look sexier strapless. I also think a silk flower in the middle will also work well."
"Wow," Joey says, "I totally didn't see that! You're amazing, Rose. Thank you so much!"
"Anytime!"
Just when Joey was about to return to her desk, a strange man (Michael Tong) enters the doors of "Ka Yan" company. He is unshaven and looks dirty. The man gives "Ka Yan" a quick glance. He seems to be looking for something, or someone. Rose turns her head away when she catches a glimpse of him.
Lily (Rain Lau) approaches the man, "Excuse me, sir. What can I do for you?"
In a rough voice, the man replies, "I'm looking for Miss Suen."
Lily gives him a confused look, "Miss Suen? I'm sorry, but there is only a Miss Hung and a Miss Man here."
"I'm sure she's here."
"Sir, there's no one by the name of 'Suen' here. What do you want?"
Ying Gei (Yvonne Lam) speaks up, "Excuse me, but are you looking for Rose?"
The man thinks for a second, "I think."
"Well, we have a Rose Suen over there," Ying Gei points.
Rose is flustered. "That idiot!" she muffles under her breath.
Joey observes Rose's expressions and glances back and forth between her and the strange visitor. The man walks over to Rose's desk. Rose has no choice but to look up at him. "Miss Suen, it is you!" the man shouts.
Rose pretends to be surprised and laughs, "Ah Hoi! What are you doing in Hong Kong?"
"I came to find you," Ah Hoi says, "Can we find somewhere to talk privately?"
"Sure." Rose leads Ah Hoi to the company's small refreshment room. Conveniently, Joey's desk was located near that room. Curious by the visitor and Rose's strange behavior, Joey follows them and stands a relatively close distance to the room. She was close enough so that she could hear, but far enough so that she wouldn't be detected, and if they suddenly left the room, she could pretend as if she was walking to her desk. Luckily, everyone in "Ka Yan" company was also busy with their own agendas.
"Miss Suen, I'm sure you know why I'm here," Ah Hoi begins.
"No, I don't," Rose giggles.
"It's about what I did for you a few months ago."
Rose's giggle immediately ends and she says in a stern voice, "Lower your tone."
"What? Afraid?"
"Be quiet! You don't want anyone to hear!" Rose glances outside the door to make sure no one was around.
"Do you want me to tell everyone, especially Mr. Kam, what happened?"
"This is not a good place to talk about this."
"I trust you won't hide from me."
"Meet me at 'La-Go-Go' at 6:00 PM," Rose instructs, "We'll talk then."
"You better show up... otherwise," Ah Hoi chuckles.
Joey senses that their conversation was coming to an end and pretends to nonchalantly head back to her desk as if she knew nothing and heard nothing. "'La-Go-Go' at 6:00 PM today," she repeats in her head.
Ah Hoi stomps out of "Ka Yan" company and as spontaneously as he had appeared, he left as if he was never there. Rose was stunned. She didn't like this feeling of being threatened. "Damn you," she curses.
