"I really don't understand!" Joey (Bernice Liu) exclaims.
"I don't understand either!" Wong Sheung (Lau Dan) walks into Joey's bedroom. "It's so late and you're still up?"
"Daddy..."
"Joey, what's up? You've been up late these days. What are you thinking about?"
Joey smiles, "It's nothing."
"Is this 'daddy' being too nosy?"
"Daddy, it's late!"
Wong Sheung laughs, "That's why I came in here to see what's up."
"You should go to bed!"
Wong Sheung shakes his head, "All right, but you go to bed too! Whatever it is, you can wait until tomorrow to think about it."
Even as Joey lay in her warm sheets dreaming, she still couldn't forget about the situation with Rose. In her dream, Joey had a confrontation with herself.
[Dream]
In a white room shimmering with white light, Joey saw a clone of herself. She gasps. "Who are you?" she demands.
"Joey, you're too pretty to be looking so pitiful," Clone Joey says. She caresses Joey's cheeks. "Oh, so much tears have run down these cheeks!"
"Who are you?" Joey repeats.
"I'm you."
"Me?"
Clone Joey nods, "Get yourself out of this state! What happened to the cheerful Joey of the past?"
"How can I be happy when Chris has been taken away from me?"
"Win him back. You know you're the only one who deserves him."
"What about Rose?"
"She's a bad girl, isn't she?"
Joey frowns, "I'm not sure..."
"What do you mean? You saw and heard what happened today."
"You mean between Ah Hoi and Rose?"
"Yes. You've always suspected Rose. Why don't you do something about it?"
"What if I'm wrong? What if I'm wrongly misunderstanding her?" Joey asks.
"You know and I know what you think about her. Why are such nasty things coming out of her mouth? What's with the money issue? What's the secret that Ah Hoi is threatening Rose with? Why is Rose so eager to keep him quiet? What happened between the two of them that involved Chris? What..."
"Stop!" Joey pleads.
"There's too much mystery surrounding her."
"But this doesn't mean she's a bad person! She's always so sweet around me and I always see her smiling..."
"Do something, Joey! Rose is a naughty girl!"
Joey covers her ears and screams at the top of her lungs, "I don't want to think about this anymore!"
[End of Dream]
[Streets]
Rose (Kenix Kwok) snuck out of the Kams' apartment in the early morning. She called Michael (Kevin Cheng) to meet her and help her with the situation with Ah Hoi. Rose stood on the streets waiting for Michael. The early morning air was brisk. Rose is trying to warm herself up when a car beeps at her. Michael rolls down his window and smiles, "Get in!"
Rose opens the passenger door and climbs in. "Thank goodness you came."
[Car]
"Miss Suen, I work for your father, of course I'm always ready when you need me."
"Michael," Rose laughs, "Stop being so formal around me!"
"Miss Suen, Mr. Suen would kill me if I addressed you any other way."
"We've known each other for a long time, haven't we?"
Michael thinks for a second, "For over twenty years now!"
"Time has gone by really fast."
"If it wasn't for your father, I would have died on the streets."
Rose smiles, "I remember it was me who told him to take you in for a meal. You looked so pitiful!"
"Mr. Suen was going to kick me out after that one meal, but he was so impressed by my wit that he took me in as a disciple."
"You grew up with me... almost like a brother."
"A brother?"
Rose beams, "Yes. I'll tell my father to adopt you as a godson!"
"Thanks, Miss Suen."
"Miss Suen? Call me Rose!"
"All right, Rose," Michael smiles.
Rose sighs, "It's such a shame we have to spoil this good atmosphere by bringing reality back into the picture."
"What does that bastard want?"
"$500,000."
"You're going to give it to him?"
"If it shuts his mouth, then I will."
"What if he comes back and asks for more?"
"He won't."
"I don't know, Miss, I mean Rose, but those kind of people are greedy. If you give it once, they'll come back for another."
"It's only $500,000, Michael."
"I know it's a small sum for you, but..."
"Thank you for worrying about me," Rose pats Michael on the shoulder. He turns red.
[Hong Kong International Airport]
Ah Hoi (Michael Tong) smiles slyly, "I knew you wouldn't deceive me."
"Whatever," Rose bitterly says.
"Hey, hey! I suggest you give me a little more respect. Your fate is in my hands, Miss Suen," Ah Hoi stresses her name.
Michael grabs Ah Hoi's shirt, wanting to kill him, "Punk! Don't talk to Rose like that."
"Stop! You guys are creating a scene," Rose urges.
"That's right, you better get off me," Ah Hoi smirks.
"You're so lucky that Rose told me to stop, otherwise..." Michael cracks his knuckles.
Rose hands Ah Hoi a check and a plane ticket, "Here's the money that you want. I'm also considerate enough to pay for your way home. Here's a plane ticket to return to Shanghai. The flight leaves in another fifteen minutes. Just get the hell out of here!"
Ah Hoi examines the check and plane ticket. "All right," he smiles and walks away.
[Car]
"I can't believe you're just going to give him the money like that," Michael says.
Rose smirks, "Michael, do you think I'm so foolish?"
"What do you mean?"
"Do you honestly think I would let someone take advantage of me like that?" Rose laughs.
"What did you do?"
"The check that I wrote for him... I reported the check number. When that bastard tries to cash it, he'll be arrested!"
Michael is speechless.
"He thinks he can pull a fast one on me? Ha!" Rose continues to laugh.
