Seeking Happiness

Chapter 5

memories restored

[Hospital]

Joey (Bernice Liu) rests her head on Ah Nin's (Frankie Lam) shoulder by the shore of a gorgeous beach. As the waves crash in the sparkling water, the two are amazed by the aesthetic scenary. It was a serene moment. Joey gazes up lovingly into Ah Nin's eyes. The connection between the two was undeniable and as she perched her head up to kiss him, he starts to disappear. "Chris!" He fades away with a smile and Joey is left alone on the beach. No matter how beautiful a sight may be, without the right person, it is just another sight.

She wakes up and realizes it was only a dream. She looked around her and saw that she was in the hospital. Feeling her forehead, she notices that it had been bandaged. Joey's head spins with the sudden recollection of every single detail of her memories. She begins to cry. "What have I done? I've treated Chris so horribly! I doubted and accused him." The moment she tries to get out of bed, a nurse (Sonija Kwok) rushes in.

"Miss, you can't leave!"

"I have to go... it can't wait anymore," Joey sobs.

"You absolutely cannot! You must stay to rest up and we also have to do a full check-up on you. It's a good thing you were admitted to hospital so quickly after that car accident! Now, don't say another word," she urges her back into bed.

As Joey lay in her bed, she couldn't rest. Her heart was racing and her mind was circulating with thoughts and questions. "Chris... please wait for me," she weakly says. Thinking things over, Joey begins to laugh. The same taxi driver in the same car accident caused her to both lose and regain her memories with Ah Nin.

[Family Apartment]

Joey was not the only person who couldn't sleep that night. Rolling around in her bed, Fiona (Sherming Yiu) is restless. She turns on the lamp on the night table and taps Ah Sing (Hawick Lau) to awaken him. "Ah Sing," she calls. He cringes at the dim light and turns to face the wall. "Honey! Please wake up. I have to talk to you."

"Can't it wait until morning?"

"No..."

Ah Sing sighs and gets up, wrapping his arms around his wife. "What's the matter?"

"When are we going to get out of here?"

"What do you mean? We just got here!"

"I don't mean Hong Kong. I mean this place."

"You don't like it here?"

"Your 'house' is so crowded! Why is everyone living together in such a small place?"

"Hong Kong is a small land with a big population, after all."

"It's not just that. I'm sorry, but your family is so weird."

Ah Sing laughs, "Weird? Yes, well, you'll get used to them! At first I felt the same way. I thought they were troublesome and ridiculous! But you will grow to like them, I'm sure of that. After all, time not only heals wounds but also builds relationships."

"Well, I guess you're right."

"Besides, we can't afford to live anywhere else. Times have changed, Fiona."

"Ok, I will give it a try."

Ah Sing kisses her and lays back down. At the mention of the past, Fiona's eyes twitches back and forth. "Can I really accept everything? Can I truly change how I live?" She turns off the light and tries to fall into a deep sleep to dream of the times when she was a princess.
