Ah Lam's birthday finally arrived. Ah San (Steven Ma) had spent days figuring and planning out everything. He was about to leave his company in preparation for Ah Lam's birthday surprise when Yoyo (Nnadia Chan) rushes in to stop him. She hands him a folder.
"You can't go yet!"
"What's wrong?"
"It turns out that our contract with 'Y&K' is not complete! If you leave now, this contract will be lost."
"Can't you give it to the managers to settle?"
Yoyo shakes her head, "We need you to review and finalize the contract again."
Ah San sighs, "I thought I made it clear that I wanted everything to be done by today."
"I know," Yoyo says, "But they just called us about it this morning. Please, Ivan, just stay for a little bit to finish it. It would be such a waste after all the work we put into it."
Ah San sits back down at his desk, "Okay, but this is the last thing I'm doing. Today is special."
"Mrs. Sze is so lucky to have a loving husband like yourself."
Ah San smiles, "Okay, let's get it done and over with."
["Ka Yan" Company, Meeting Office]
Ah Lam (Linda Chung) and Ah Sing (Hawick Lau) are waiting for Mr. Kwok to arrive in "Ka Yan"'s meeting office. The sample outfits were waiting for examination and the two were ready to swarm the client their presentation.
Ying Gei (Yvonne Lam) knocks on the door and announces, "Michelle, Mr. Kwok has arrived."
Ah Lam gets up to greet him, "Hello. I'm Michelle Hung. This is my designer, Lau Ka Sing. Nice to meet you."
"Yes, very well," Mr. Kwok (Joe Ma) answers. He shakes their hands.
They lead him over to the meeting table and begin their presentation. Mr. Kwok and his secretary seem bored throughout the presentation, which made Ah Lam a little nervous. She wondered if it was because what they presented was not up to Mr. Kwok's tastes.
Ah Lam finishes her presentation and anxiously waits to hear Mr. Kwok's response.
Surprisingly, he says, "Very well. Let's sign a contract."
"Really?" Ah Sing blurts out.
It became clear to Ah Lam that Ah Sing had had the same worries. She waves for him to hush with her hands behind her back. She smiles at Mr. Kwok and apologizes, "Sorry. My designer isn't very good with clients."
"Strange. His presentation on his designs awhile ago was good."
Ah Lam wants to ask him about the order when he interrupts her.
"Michelle, you're Mrs. Sze, am I not correct?"
Ah Lam is taken back, "Why, yes, I am."
"Good."
"Why?"
"My trip here wasn't wasted then. Hurry up and process our order."
"Are you in a rush Mr. Kwok?"
"The sooner the contract goes through, the sooner I can work with 'Sze Corporation.'"
Ah Lam blinks, "What was that?"
"My colleagues tell me that 'Sze Corporation' will give utmost priority to any client who does business with 'Ka Yan' company first."
"'Sze Corporation' as in the company run by Ivan Sze?"
Mr. Kwok nods, "Yes, that one."
"I don't quite get what you mean. What does 'Ka Yan' have to do with that company?"
"I heard that Mr. Sze was worried about your company, so he made a special request to any interested clients for his company to first do business with 'Ka Yan' company. Afterwards, he will see the client and give their company a discount as well as special service."
Ah Lam is stunned.
"I tried to make an appointment with 'Sze Corporation' a few days ago, but they told me to wait until the week after next! Can you believe that? When I asked my colleagues, they told me the way into Mr. Sze's heart was by bribing his wife at 'Ka Yan' first with a business contract. So, I did that and now I'm here today. Please hurry up so that I can speak with 'Sze Corporation' earlier."
"I'm sorry," Ah Lam says.
"What?" Mr. Kwok thought he had heard incorrectly.
"You don't want to do business with our company. If so, I don't want to force you."
"We do want to do business! If this doesn't go through, I'll have to wait a long time to speak with 'Sze Corporation!'"
Ah Lam extends her hand towards the door, "Please leave."
"What nerve you have!" Mr. Kwok angrily storms out of "Ka Yan" company.
"Ah Lam, why did you do that?" Ah Sing questions.
"That man," Ah Lam points at the door, "Was not interested in our company nor in doing business with us."
"The contract he wanted to do was a big one!"
Ah Lam runs out of "Ka Yan" without another word. Everyone in "Ka Yan" gossip and wonder what happened.
[Sze Corporation]
Ah San stretches his body. The contract for "Y&K" was finally complete and he could go home and make the final preparations for Ah Lam's elaborate birthday party. He was excited and confident that Ah Lam would be thrilled. Ah San hears Yoyo greet, "Mrs. Sze, good morning" from outside as he's packing up his things.
Ah Lam stomps into Ah San's office.
"Michelle?" Ah San looks behind.
"Ivan."
"What are you doing here?"
"Ivan, I have a question for you."
"What is it?"
"Is it true that you had something to do with 'Ka Yan''s business going well again?"
Ah San answers, "No! Of course not."
"Don't lie to me. Mr. Kwok of 'Kwok Corporations' told me everything. You made clients come to 'Ka Yan' to make contracts with our company first before they could do business with your company. Is that true?"
"I didn't say that!"
"Is that true?" Ah Lam repeats.
"I didn't even speak to Mr. Kwok yet! I didn't do anything for 'Ka Yan' the past month."
"Then why would he say that?"
"Oh!" Ah San snaps his fingers, "That was a few months ago."
Ah Lam's eyes widen, "So that explains 'Ka Yan''s business for the past few months! It was failing and then surged up and then failed again and recently climbed back up. It's because of you! You made people come to my company to do business that they weren't interested in doing!"
"Michelle, it's not like that!" Ah San tries to approach Ah Lam, but she pushes him away.
"Ivan, how could you do that to me?"
"I just wanted you to be happy. You were so sad that business was going down. I just thought if it went up you could be happy. I didn't know it would become such a big deal. It's not what you think! Michelle, I had good intentions!" Ah San explains.
"Oh yeah? Well the outcome sure wasn't good!" Ah Lam bites back tears and runs out of his office.
"Michelle!" Ah San tries to run after Ah Lam, but she had disappeared.
