"Good morning. 'Tung Mat Yuen.' How may I help you?" Nim Chi (Nancy Sit) greets on the phone.
"Ma Chi! Have you seen Fiona?" There is a sense of anxiety Ah Sing's (Hawick Lau) voice.
"Ah Sing?" Nim Chi asks.
"Ma Chi, have you seen Fiona?" Ah Sing repeats.
"No, I haven't."
"I've tried to call her the past two days, but no one is answering!"
"What number did you dial?"
"Both the house and cell."
"That's strange. Fiona should have taken her cell phone with her on her vacation..."
"Vacation? What are you talking about?"
"Oh, I forgot to tell you. I received a note from Fiona a few days ago. She told us that she was taking a vacation. She's gone back to the Island with her aunt. She says that she will be back soon."
"What?" Ah Sing exclaims loudly.
"What's wrong?"
"Ma Chi, how are you going to let Fiona go back to the Island? You know what happened!"
"Of course I do. That was why I let her go."
"You let her go?" Ah Sing is in shock.
"It was all a misunderstanding. Fiona's aunt explained it to me. It turns out that her dad asked her to put up an act so that Fiona would think that she was evil and wanted to take the throne away from her. Fiona took the act for real and thought she was exiled and no longer a princess. It is all one big misunderstanding! Fiona's aunt came to Hong Kong to reclaim her. Don't worry, she's fine. Your Ma Chi has good judgment. Fiona's aunt is a sweet lady. I'm sure they worked out everything now." Nim Chi is confident and smiles.
Ah Sing can't believe what he's hearing, "Ma Chi, are you sure about this?"
"Of course I am. I heard it with my very own ears."
"So Fiona forgave her aunt and willingly went back to the Island?"
"I suppose."
"What do you mean?"
"Ah Sing, do you think I'm a busybody with nothing to do? I have to run 'Tung Mat Yuen' and worry about the family's cooking! I don't have time to watch after everyone and see what they're up to."
"Ma Chi, this is serious! Fiona's aunt is a vicious woman!"
"Ah Sing, I think you misunderstood her like Fiona did."
"Ma Chi, you don't understand!"
"Yes, I do. Fiona left us a letter. Everything is okay."
Ah Sing sighs, "I'll call back later. I have to go with Ah Lam to meet a client."
["Ka Yan" Company]
The sound of a fly buzzing in "Ka Yan" company could be heard that day. It was so eerily quiet that everyone in the company felt uneasy. Gam (Louis Yuen) slaps a fly dead with his bare hand. "I can't take it!"
"Gam Gam, what's wrong?"
"This silence! Where is everyone?"
Ying Gei (Yvonne Lam) answers, "Michelle and Ah Sing are in Japan while Rose and Miss Man are in Canada."
"Einstein, don't you think I know that? I can't take it! 'Ka Yan' was always so noisy in the past, now it's dead quiet!"
[Ah Nin's Office]
Located towards the back of "Ka Yan" company was the office that belonged to Ah Nin (Frankie Lam). This room used to be a storage room, but because of the need for another office, it was turned into an office. Joey's (Bernice Liu) desk was situated near the door.
"Hello? Mrs. Li? Yes, we're working on your designs right now. What? You have to leave a week early?" Ah Nin glances at his calendar and frowns. "No, it's not a problem. Don't worry! We'll get it done for you on time. All right, bye bye."
Ah Nin approaches Joey and asks, "How far are you in Mrs. Li's business?"
"You called me about this the other day. Don't worry!" Joey smiles.
"Have you started drawing them yet?"
"No... but I have the ideas down in my head."
"Joey, she just called me and said that she's leaving a week earlier than planned. This means that she'll need to see the designs sooner!"
"So you want me to finish them as soon as possible?"
Ah Nin clasps his hands together and says, "Yes, please!"
"Okay, no problem."
"Thanks."
While everyone else left "Ka Yan" company when 5:00 PM hit, Ah Nin and Joey continued to stay well into the night to work overtime. Mrs. Li's order was being rushed and they had no choice but to remain in "Ka Yan" until they finished. As Joey drew her sketches and the sky became dark, she didn't feel tired at all. She felt happy knowing that she was "alone" with Ah Nin.
Ah Nin taps Joey on the shoulder, "How is it going?"
"I'm halfway done."
"Really? That's great." Ah Nin grabs some sketches from Joey's desk and flips through them. "Not bad." He gives a look down at his watch, "It's almost 10:00! I think we should head home now."
"Head home? But we're not finished yet."
"It's late. I don't want to overwork you. We can finish it tomorrow."
"But what if we run late?"
Ah Nin snatches Joey's pencil from her right hand. "I'll take this and give it to you tomorrow. Without this pencil, you can't draw! You might as well go home now because you won't get any work done without this pencil!"
"Oh really?" Joey opens a drawer in her desk and reveals a row of pencils. She takes out one of the pencils and sticks out her tongue. "I can continue for as long as I want! You can't stop me!"
Ah Nin shrugs, "Okay, but don't sue me for abusing my worker! You chose to stay longer than I did."
"Go!"
"Don't stay too late."
"I won't."
Joey sighs as she continues drawing. She hates herself for staying and letting Ah Nin leave her alone in "Ka Yan." Ten minutes pass before she decides to give up and leave. She packs her bags and takes her sketches home to finish. When she closes the office door, she feels a tap on her shoulder. She hits the person with her bags. "Die! Die! Help! Someone help!" she screams.
"Stop!" the person calls.
"Chris?" Joey gasps.
"Is this a way to treat your superior?" Ah Nin playfully demands.
Joey smiles sheepishly. "What are you doing here? I thought your lazy behind left long ago!"
"How could I leave a helpless girl alone in the company? Come on, let's get out of here. I'll give you a ride home."
[Car]
While Ah Nin was driving, he looks at Joey in his passenger seat and notices that she was grimacing. "What's wrong?"
"I feel a little hungry, that's all."
"Do you?"
Joey nods her head, "I get hungry, especially after 9:00 PM... my blood sugar runs low."
Ah Nin steers his car to the side of the road. He stops and puts the gear into "park." He reaches for his glove compartment and takes out a wrapped sandwich for Joey. "Eat this before you pass out. It's a hamburger."
"I don't like eating the bun..." Joey's voice trails.
Ah Nin opens the sandwich and takes out the bun, leaving the meat in the wrapper. He hands the wrapped meat to Joey. "I'll eat the bun while you can enjoy the best part of the hamburger!"
Joey smiles as she bites into the meat patty. She is reminded of time when the two of them had made a "date" to eat at a famous restaurant that was almost closing. They had gotten lost and ended up in the middle of nowhere. Joey was so hungry that she was about to pass out that night. To satisfy her hunger, Ah Nin gave her a hamburger to eat. Joey had complained that the bun was soggy, so Ah Nin took out the bun and gave her the meat patty only.
"Thank you," Joey says.
[Kam Family Apartment, Nim Chi's Bedroom]
"Ah Sing, trust me, Fiona is okay!" Nim Chi insists.
"Read me the letter again."
Nim Chi sighs, "'To everyone, don't worry, I'm only on a vacation. Hesitate please and keep living your normal lives. I am on the Island and will be back soon. Need not worry, I am safe. Help, okay? Please keep my apartment clean.' As you can hear Ah Sing, there is nothing suspicious about the letter... besides your wife's horrible grammar."
"I don't get it. How could Fiona write something like that? Are you sure Ma Chi?"
"Yes. Fiona's aunt is nice, I'm sure of it. Don't worry."
"Well, if you say so."
"When are you coming back?"
"I told Ah Lam about Fiona and she is trying to get the clients in Japan to come to Hong Kong to finish the discussions. She's trying to help me get home as soon as possible so I can check up on Fiona."
"But Fiona's on the Island! It won't matter if you're back home in Hong Kong."
"I want to see the letter and read it personally..."
[Wong Family House]
Ah Nin drops Joey off in front of her house. "Good night." He smiles and gives her a wave before driving off.
"Good night." Joey enters her house with her teeth showing through a big grin.
