Ah Nin (Frankie Lam) and Joey (Bernice Liu) were successful in their pursuit for Mrs. Li's contract. She was impressed by Joey's fresh designs and was also pleased with how professional and smart Ah Nin was. She praised the two of them as being the "perfect couple." To this, Joey was pleased. Ah Nin smiles and agrees that they make a great team.
[Ah Nin's Office]
"Joey, you've worked so hard the past few days," Ah Nin says as he makes his way to her from his desk.
"Having such a hardworking superior, of course I have to be diligent!" Joey smiles.
"We deserve a treat."
"A treat?"
"Yes. Our labor for Mrs. Li's contract is finally done! We should treat ourselves to something."
Joey says, "I'm feeling hungry."
Ah Nin laughs, "You're always hungry! Where do you want to go eat?"
"Actually, I have a sweet tooth right now and I'm craving for some sweet soup..." Joey confesses.
"Okay, then. I know the perfect place!"
["One Bowl of Sweet Soup" Restaurant]
Ah Nin took Joey to the "One Bowl of Sweet Soup" restaurant. It was situated among a bunch of restaurants and food stands. The neighborhood was crowded with hungry people enjoying their food. Joey was happy just to be on a "date" with Ah Nin.
The owner (Charmaine Sheh) of "One Bowl of Sweet Soup" greets them at the door. She escorts them to a vacant table near the back of the restaurant. She hands them two menus and says, "I'll be back to take your order in a few minutes. We have a lot of sweet soups to choose from, so just take your time! They're all very good. If you want, you can try them all!" She laughs.
Joey and Ah Nin flip through the menu and are amused at the names of the sweet soups. "These names sound funny," Joey smiles.
"I think they're creative... not your typical names," Ah Nin comments.
"I don't know what to choose!" Joey sighs. "They are all appealing."
Ah Nin takes out a credit card from his wallet, "If you want to eat it all, then do it!"
"Are you sure? Because I will!"
Ah Nin nods, "I'm your superior, I think I can afford it! Besides, you deserve it after all you've put in to your work."
"Okay. You know what? I won't order just yet. I'll make my own combination."
"What?"
"You'll see." Joey smiles and waves for the owner.
The owner comes back to the table with a pad, "Are you ready to order?"
Joey tells her, "Yes, I would like a sweet soup with..."
As Ah Nin listens to Joey's rather peculiar order, he is reminded of something. He remembers asking someone what she would like for a late-night meal. This "someone" told him that she wanted a sweet soup with a bunch of stuff in it. He recalls laughing at her and saying that she would get diarrhea from the sweet soup. Ah Nin tries to make out the identity of this woman, but all he can "see" are voices and fuzzy images. The order that the woman had given him was similar to the one that he heard Joey order just now.
"Sir? Are you ready to order?" the owner asks Ah Nin.
Joey glances at Ah Nin and notices that he is in a trance. She taps him, "Chris!"
"What?" Ah Nin blinks himself back to reality.
"Are you ready to order?" the owner smiles while waiting patiently.
"Um... yes. I will have the tri-colored storm," Ah Nin answers.
"All right. Your order will be ready in a few minutes," the owner says and walks away.
Joey is interested as to why Ah Nin had spaced out, "What were you thinking about?"
"When I heard you order, I was reminded of something... someone in the past had told me to buy the same sweet soup for her. I remember teasing her that it would cause diarrhea, but she said that's what she liked. I can't remember who it was... it's so blurry..." Ah Nin hits his head as if trying to place his brain back into place.
Joey is happy after hearing Ah Nin say this because she knew instantly that he was talking about her. A few years ago, the two had worked overtime and Joey was feeling hungry, so she told Ah Nin to go buy the sweet soup that she just ordered. She decides to take her chance and talk about his condition, "Who do you suppose this woman was?"
"I don't know... it could be anyone."
"Do you think it was someone important to you?"
"I guess... why would I go buy sweet soup for her if she wasn't?" Ah Nin can't remember who this woman is and grows frustrated. "Damn it! I wish my amnesia would go away! I feel there is still a big part of my memories that still need to be restored... I'm so useless."
Joey encourages him, "You've progressed a lot. I remember five months ago you didn't know who Auntie Chi was. Now you remember everyone in your family. I think you remember almost everyone that's important to you..." Joey's voice trails. She wants to add, "You remember everyone but me, the person you loved most in the past."
"You're right. I can't rush it." He gives her a smile. "I have to go to the bathroom now. Excuse me."
"All right, go ahead," Joey says.
Joey felt so happy; not only was she on a "date" with Ah Nin, she still had a part in his memories, and she was confident that time would bring her back into his life. Ah Nin's cell phone rings. Joey was about to answer it for him until she sees that the caller ID says it was Rose (Kenix Kwok) calling. She doesn't want to create any misunderstanding, so she does not pick it up. Joey's heart also dropped when she saw the wallpaper on Ah Nin's phone was of him kissing Rose. Just like that, Joey was back to a state of despair.
"Even if Chris remembers me, there is still Rose, his fiancé, in the picture," Joey says in a sad tone.
